5 Cautions when using artificial tears

15 August, 2023

After surgery, artificial tears are necessary to maintain eye moisture to help avoid inflammation, fatigue, and dry eyes, especially in the first three months after surgery.

5 Cautions when using artificial tears

Patients using artificial tears should note the following during use to ensure eye safety:

Selection of artificial tears: Depending on the condition and degree of dry eyes, the doctor will assign the appropriate type of eye to help the patient achieve the highest efficiency and support the recovery process of the eye after surgery.

Dosage: Depending on the doctor’s instructions, usually, the patient can use this kind of eye drop 3-4 times a day; if the patient still has dry eyes, it is necessary to contact the doctor immediately for a visit: examination and consultation.

How to store: Keep artificial tears in a cool place after opening the lid; depending on the type of artificial tears the patient needs to use in 1-3 days or 2-4 weeks. Do not use them when seeing it causes discolouration or foreign bodies inside.

Abnormal symptoms: If your eyes have pain, itching, burning, and redness … after using eye drops, the patient should stop using them and immediately contact the doctor for examination and primary diagnosis. Determine the cause, and do not arbitrarily use the drug without a doctor’s prescription.

When not to use: If the artificial tears you are using show signs of expiration, no longer have the original transparency, are opened before use, and have foreign objects inside… then the patient will not continue to use.
