Currently in Vietnam, fundus disease is the leading cause of blindness. The delay in detecting this pathology has made treatment much more expensive and difficult. Diseases tend to increase day by day and are a danger to patients, causing harm not only to health but also to economy and society.

1. What is fundus disease?

Fundus is a general medical term aimed at accurately zoning the position of two closely related structures deep in the eyeball, the vitreous & retina.

* Vitreous (crystal body): It is a clear, dense fluid that occupies most of the inner space of the eye.

The retina is a layer of light-sensitive nerves lining the inner surface of the eyeball, responsible for receiving and transmitting optical signals to the brain. The retina has a very important point in the center, the macula, which helps the eyes to see the details of the image clearly.

Diseases arising in the vitreous cavity or on the retina are often classified as fundus diseases.

2. Signs to recognize fundus disease

People with fundus disease often have manifestations such as seeing black spots in front of the eyes, loss of color perception, sudden blurred vision, blurred spots in the center of the image or distorted, distorted images. Symptoms are often sudden and worsen rapidly.

Up to 45% of patients with disease in one eye will have a second eye within 3 to 4 years.

The way to detect the disease at the earliest is to have regular check-ups and periodic eye health check-ups. Some of the following cases need periodic eye exams:

  • People with relatives with diabetes
