Care Instruction for Refractive Surgery (Lasik)

9 August, 2023

Post-Lasik Care Instruction
Post-Lasik Care Instruction

Following is the fundamental care instruction for refractive surgery at Prima Medical Center Saigon.

  • After surgery, there will be a feeling of foggy, lumpy, and teary, and usually, these sensations will go away after 3 – 6 hours.
  • Never rub your eyes with your hands.
  • You should close your eyes or sleep for 3-4 hours after surgery to relieve pain and discomfort quickly.
  • Wash your hands before applying for the medicine. On the first day, the eye may be difficult to open, so use a finger to pull the lower eyelid to instill the eye drops gently. Avoid touching the tip of the vial to your eyes.
  • Wear eye protection continuously for 3-7 days outdoors and when sleeping to avoid accidentally rubbing your eyes. You can drive alone for one week after surgery.
  • Do not put water in your eyes for the first week after surgery.
  • Avoid getting sweat, soap, and dirty water into your eyes. For women, do not put makeup on the eyes for the first month after surgery.
  • In the early days, all movements, opening, and closing should also be gentle. Do not go swimming or play contact sports for the first month after surgery.
  • The first time after surgery, the eyes can’t see close enough because the eyes are not used to accommodating. It would be best not to worry that this phenomenon will disappear after a few weeks.
  • You can go back to work, as usual, the next day. If your eyes feel tired, you should rest for a while, close your eyes, and then continue working.
  • Eat a regular diet, but avoid foods that can cause allergies. Do not use stimulants such as alcohol, beer, or smoking the first month after surgery.
  • Follow up immediately if the eyes are normal suddenly: Eye pain, blurred vision.
  • Use medication and follow-up visits precisely as directed by your doctor.
  • Monitor the refraction 3 – 6 months after surgery.
