Prima Medical Center Saigon, Cataract, Eye Diseases

Signs and Symptoms of Cataract Patients should know

14 August, 2023

Cataract is a common disease in middle age due to the body’s aging process. Different treatments exist at each stage of the disease, so it is essential to determine which location is cloudy.

Cataract: Levels and symptoms you need to know

Prima Medical Center Saigon will point out the stages of cataracts that patients need to pay attention to, along with typical symptoms.

1. The onset of turbidity

At this stage, the patient’s ability to change focus between near and far vision has begun to be affected. The person may experience blurred vision or feel bright when looking at lights or sunlight. Patients also feel more eye fatigue than before. For this stage of cataract, if detected early and treated promptly, it is possible that the patient will not need surgery and can still recover from the disease.

2. Progressive opaque stage

In the advanced stage of cataracts, pathological signs will become more and more apparent and affect health, work (study), and daily activities. Patients at this stage may begin to feel ice-dropped vision or see a thin fog in front of their eyes. If not treated early, the lens will gradually become cloudy or cause other dangerous complications.

3. Full chisel stage

At this time, cataracts will seriously affect the patient’s vision, the patient is only aware of light and dark and cannot see the surrounding scenery, and the treatment becomes more difficult. Cataracts that are too mature or completely cloudy also put patients at risk of developing other eye diseases, such as glaucoma. At this time, it was necessary to intervene with surgery to replace the artificial lens to regain vision.

The longer the cataract is left untreated, the harder it is for vision to recover fully, and the patient is more likely to face permanent blindness.
